Innocheque Funding granted

We are very excited that we have been granted (for our project “intelligent sensor”) an innosuisse grant, in form of an “innocheque” ( to go beyond the first proof of concept.

The goal is to build a compact, hand-held and low-cost sensor that can learn to classify different vegetable oils based on fluorescence spectroscopy using machine learning. The innovative approach is to use a neural networks which learns by examples to classify substances without using analytical substance-specific mathematical models. In this preliminary study, the sensor will learn to distinguish different types of vegetable oils. The method, however, is not specific to oil and could be applied to other food types which are luminescence active. Applications include food quality control, fingerprinting and counterfeiting detection.
